A Valid Point Based on Equality

In Silvia's blog, http://aresidentsview.blogspot.com/2009/11/liberty-equals-privacy-and-privacy.html, she makes reference to the 14th amendment and weather or not its an equal civil right. Silvia's reference is dead on the money. She questions, "If the Constitution embraces a woman’s right to terminate her pregnancy because her body is a private matter then why is not a private matter for a woman to sell her body for money?" Though I do not condone prostitution and feel that abortion is a matter of circumstance and should be done responsibly; these choices are of a private nature to the individual and more of a moral issue rather than a political one.

In older times when the Catholic Church was in political power they sanctioned the right for certain women to serve as prostitutes. Their reasoning was that if she was appointed by god, then the priest could fulfill his male urges whether married or not and still remain in the good graces of god. Now yes that took place a very long time ago when soldiers wore metal armor and wielded swords, but prostitution has been around for a very long time. Providing that the prostitution is legal in the sense that it is a voluntary act by the woman and not forced by someone who claims to own them. So yes, clean up the streets so children are not witness to the act, but instead move them to a facility like a gentleman's club where if the woman decides to under go such an act it would be private and completely her choice.

Our political leaders are notorious for their double standard as is evident through out history. In WWII we assist the allied forces in freeing Jews from their concentration camps and we put our own Asian citizens in concentration camps of our own. There is no telling where things would go if a government was truly honest with its people or whether or not things would be better off if our government followed the civil rights of its people more accurately. This is a truly a debatable topic and I hope some day a politician of good moral standing and with the integrity needed to challenge the system will make these changes for the benefit of the US citizens so we can all live better lives.

The Reason Why Society Never Improves

This of course would be an excellent idea if all people were simple minded and when they were told not to do something they actually listened. Take murder for example; Murder is against the law and can even be punishable by death penalty, but you do not see our murder rate dropping any. The punishment for a hate crime is a prison sentence which in comparison to the penalty for murder is hardly equal. So with that in mind how would this Act even benefit our society? Truth be told, it doesn't benefit us at all. It simply adds another crutch for criminals to use against the innocent. Take for example child molestation. Say your at your local Catholic Church and your pastor decides to molest your son. In a fit of rage for his sinful and atrocious act you give him a black eye or two. After which you call the police and urge to press charges. Sadly though you are now the criminal because you beat him up and not only that it turns out he was a homosexual. So now instead of you getting your justice for his crime, he is filing a counter suit against you. Now the lawyers ammunition would be that you acted out of "hatred" toward his religious beliefs or because he was a homosexual. So where does that leave you. That will land you in prison with a hefty sentence, maybe six years or so, while our clergy pedophile friend gets off with a slap on the wrist and perhaps some community service to atone for his crime. So how is that fair to the American people? Criminals will continue committing crimes because they do not care for the well being of others nor do they adhere to the laws of man.

For my own personal opinion the Hate Crime Act is an ineffective way to fight this crime. The act was established during the the early 90s to stem the racism towards African Americans mainly, because the homosexual community was not added until recently. It is not fair to the innocent when we are not allowed to defend ourselves or our children when a crime is committed against us. They should turn it around, give the pedophile the six years to life for the crime and give the innocents some community service if they decided to beat the criminal up a little. After all, retaliation is a risk the criminal is taking when they decide to commit the crime. So in short lawmakers need to write laws that kill the problem at its root and not try to stop its progress.

At Last; Death to a Tyrant, The Feds Number is Called

Long have the wiser people of this great nation speculated that greed and corruption were the root of our Nation's financial issues. It would seem that some of our Senators in office have finally
come to the conclusion that the Federal Government; most precisely the Federal Reserve; should no longer go unchecked. The trillion dollars the Federal Reserve has spent in bail outs for multi billion dollar companies should not have happened so freely, implies Texas Senator Ron Paul. Senator Paul published the book, "End the Fed" which has recently made it to the best sellers list.

Senator Christopher J. Dodd declared, "the Fed has been an abysmal failure." Finally Senators are starting to speak out about the corruption that plagues our nation starting with the Feds. Andrews from the New York Times which explains a new bill is being pursued by 300 House lawmakers and 30 Senators pushing for a system of checks and balances for the Feds or a method of auditing the Feds.

Naturally the Feds are up in arms against this bill as it would no longer allow them to dictate what interest rates are, keep the wealthy in business by giving them bail out money, and most importantly finally stop increasing the National Debt. Senator Bernie Sanders is a left leaning independent from Vermont who is sponsoring Senator Ron Paul's bill and stated, "People are frightened, how do you explain to them that the Fed has spent $2 trillion to help many of the same banks that got us into this crisis in the first place." Senator Sanders statement rings true, but why have we not done something about it sooner? Could this be the beginning of better times, when our Senate acts with a sense of integrity and with the best interests of the people in mind as per what was written in our Constitution several decades ago. I suppose it is better late than never.

Real Leadership comes from the Heart

I read a blog this morning on yahoo.com's front page about President Obama's visit to Dover Air Force Base honoring the fallen soldiers returning from Iraq. This is a Link from the NY Times website which is very similar to the yahoo site, http://New York Times. It was rather touching to see him there. My entire family is of military background dating back to the Korean War and possibly even around the WWII era. President Obama truly honors the fallen for a couple reason which are evident by his behavior. One, he flew to Dover Air Force Base to honor the fallen, something that our previous failure of a President wouldn't do considering it was his war to begin with. Second, he has been trying to lessen the U.S. presence in the middle east since the start of his administration.

The link: http://Dead troops remembered by the President who had them killed shows the hatred one US veteran has for our ex-President. Bush on the other hand, a man who doesn't deserve the title of President started this lovely war under false pretenses. He lied about weapons of mass destruction and if the "real" evidence were allowed to be reported to the public, I wouldn't doubt it if the plane high jackings weren't a staged event as well. There is already evidence that the Trade Center buildings were prepped with demolition charges and the steal beams; which were built to withstand the impact of a plane, had been pre-cut as is done during the demolition of a building. It is a harsh truth to accept but consider the "true" reasons behind our Invasion of Iraq I truly believe Bush murdered his own people for his own personal gains and the gains of yep, you guessed it; multi billion dollar companies looking to stake claim in the new territory.

There are people out there who dislike President Obama for various reasons. Some reasons are personal which are invalid and others for his political views. That is a fact of life, we will always be in disagreement about one thing or another. But the truth of his character is what is important and should be remembered. Sadly is unable to do anything about the corruption that fills our political system but at least he is willing to start by bringing our warriors home. Even if it is little by little.

Money Talks and B.S. Walks

Health care reform is a major topic in the Obama administration. There are several people who a against the idea and there are several that would like to see the changes that President Obama is proposing go through. However, the "people" who are against the Presidents reform proposal is not necessarily the citizens who are being scammed by the Insurance companies but the Insurance companies themselves are the biggest ones against this reform obviously. The AHIP and now BCBSA have issued financial reports which were funded by themselves to illustrate the "negative" effects of the reform bill. According the their findings, insurance premiums will skyrocket by 111% if the reform passes and if things are allowed to stay the same premiums will only increase by 78%. There are several individuals who have been following this issue and have deduced that the insurance companies are threatening the American people with higher
unregulated costs for their premiums should the reform bill pass.



In a link from swampland blogs, I found a blog posted by Kate Pickert, the following link http://swampland.blogs.time.com/2009/10/14/a-new-and-better-but-still-flawed-insurance-industry-report/ which explains the details of the new BCBSA industry report. Though this report is only slightly better than its predecessor which was a poor excuse for a report to begin with. In statements from both Price Water House who provided the first report and statements from Oliver Wyman who furnished the report for BCBSA both claimed that they omitted key information about the reform bill which were meant to lower insurance premium costs. They stated that they felt it was unnecessary to include those details in their reports. I say, how convenient that they omit actual information that shows a decrease in premiums and instead paint a picture that show how expensive things will get if legislation is passed.



The author seems to be reaching out to those individuals with like minded interests or to individuals who are willing to view a situation with an open mind. Kate Pickert is a blogger/reporter for Time Magazine and therefore her blog is credible regarding the information she has presented for her readers. I most definitely agree with her statements about the insurance companies corruption and the fact that they scam the patients out of needed medical care. I work in the medical field and see first hand how patients are taken advantage of by there insurance companies with high premiums and poor coverage.
